Matching Transactions on Bank page

In Gekko, you can link your payment account via the bank page. Your bank will forward the transactions from your payment account to Gekko.

It's important to note that bank transactions in Gekko do not affect your reports, such as your VAT report. The transactions in Gekko are mainly relevant for your internal administration.

Below, we explain the different types of transactions and how to process them properly.

Business Transactions

Most transactions you deal with as an entrepreneur are business transactions. In Gekko, your transactions are by default categorized as business transactions.

You can classify your business transactions as one of the following:

  • Costs
  • Income
  • Other

Costs

Your business expenses are transactions with a negative amount. When you click on a transaction that you want to classify as a cost, you have two options:

  1. You can create a new cost from your transaction.
    OR
  2. You can link your transaction to suggested existing costs.

When you create a new receipt from your transaction, the new receipt will be stored on Gekko's costs page.

If you have already saved your receipt under Gekko's expenses, it will be suggested as a match when you click on your transaction.

Income

Your business income consists of credited transactions that belong to your revenue. When you click on a credited transaction, you again have two options:

  1. You can create a new correction for your transaction.
    OR
  2. You can link your transaction to a suggested existing invoice.

When you create a new correction from your transaction, it will be stored on Gekko’s invoices page. A correction is flexible and does not need to meet strict invoice requirements. You can also use a correction for revenue that does not require an invoice.

When opening your transaction, Gekko will suggest invoices to link it to. If you select an invoice from the suggestions, the transaction will be added as a payment for that invoice.

Marking as other

Are there business transactions that cannot be linked to costs or an invoice? For example, when you have a bulk transaction (such as Mollie payouts) or have a credited amount where the deducted costs are included in the transaction? In that case, you can use the option "Mark as other". A transaction marked as other will be ignored in Gekko.

Non-business transactions

Non-business expenses include your Private transactions, and transactions that can be marked as Taxes.

When opening your transaction, click in the top left corner on the type of transaction (Business is the standard) and select the type you need.
