Journal entries

Gekko does not have a dedicated feature for storing journal entries. However, technically you can still create journal entries in Gekko, they just don’t have that name.

1. Journal entries for Income

For corrections on income, you can use corrections in Gekko.

  • Go to the Invoices page.

  • Click the +Upload button in the top right corner.

  • Select Correction and create the adjustment you need for your administration.

2. Journal entries for Costs

For expenses, you can create a journal entry simply by adding a new cost.

Some useful options include:

  • Select transaction type → For expenses that have not yet been paid, you can select the type Not yet paid.

  • Adjust the date → Record expenses that relate to a different (past) period.

  • Process depreciations → Optionally, create an expense category for the depreciation of an investment and record it as a regular expense. For a concrete example, please see our support article about recording a lease contract.

3. Categorizing expenses with custom expense categories

To keep your administration organized, you can make use of custom cost categories.

Examples include:

  • Investments

  • Depreciations (e.g. VAT non-deductible)

This way, you can better organize and analyze your journal entries and other expenses.
