Tips you give can be recorded as expenses.

It is allowed to add the tip to the total amount of the receipt. In this article, you will learn how to add a tip to your receipt.

Be aware of VAT

You buy something for €10,60 but pay €11. You enter €11 as the amount. Since there is no VAT on tips (see the Dutch Tax Authority’s website about Tips and extra payments), you must use the VAT amount stated on the receipt.

Note: Do not use Gekko’s automatic VAT calculation for recording your tips.

Adding a tip: step-by-step guide

It’s best to enter all amounts manually. The easiest and quickest method is as follows:

  1. Enter the total amount as €10,60.
  2. Calculate 21% (which is €1,84).
  3. Overwrite the total amount with €11,00.
